A warm welcome to the library, from Miss Dunnaker…
The library at Northfield School for Girls is a welcoming hub of activity. This is the place to go for use of the computers and access to a wide range of books games and newspapers. The library is the perfect place to catch up on homework, where there is help and support at hand or the opportunity simply to sit on the comfy chairs with a good book.
Our library is open five days a week from 8:30-3:30-lunchtimes and break-times, with Wednesday lunchtimes restricted to year 7 pupils only.
Our ‘Accelerated Reader’ programme has been running from the library, and in its third year is going from strength to strength, proving great results in encouraging our girls to improve with their reading. A select group of our year 11 pupils have been elected as ‘AR aunties.’ These girls dedicate their own time to supporting and encouraging our year 8 pupils with their reading.
Other activities which take place our library include ‘storytelling sessions’ for the lower school pupils. These have proven to be great fun as well as educational. As well as sharing stories with the girls props and puppets are used, which has proven hugely popular with the girls.
The ‘Book-Buzz’ programme runs from our library, allowing each year 7 pupil their very own choice of a free book.
So come along to the library and get involved. We can’t wait to see you there!
